Gas spring mounting direction affects service life: three common mistakes
Rod-down is the first rule of gas spring mounting. Three frequent mistakes - rod-up, side loads from poor pivot geometry, zero-stroke margin - and how HAHN gas springs should be sized and checked.
The oil seal inside a gas spring must stay wetted; mounting rod-down keeps the oil pad on the seal for 30,000+ strokes, while rod-up can halve life.
Three frequent mistakes: 1) rod-up mounting (the main one); 2) pivot line not perpendicular to the stroke, putting side load on the rod and wearing the seal off-centre; 3) selecting full stroke without margin, causing hard bottoming.
HAHN gas springs come in free and locking types; F1 force follows the pivot geometry - the closer to the hinge, the higher the required force. Juanmu offers free force-curve checks.
