IP68 vs IP67 in practice: choosing sealing for conduit systems

Industry News admin

IP67 is short-term immersion; IP68 means continuous immersion with conditions declared by the maker. In conduit systems the conduit is rarely the weak point - fittings are. Selection advice included.

Engineers often read IP68 as simply "one grade above IP67"; the real difference is the test: IP67 is 1m for 30 minutes, while IP68 depth and duration are declared by the manufacturer - always check the stated conditions.

In a conduit system the corrugated body with its steel helix rarely leaks; the weak points are the fittings: straight connectors, Y-branches and the sealing membrane set the system rating.

The parameter tables on the Juanmu conduit pages state system-level IP68 (EN/IEC 60529). Choose the IP68 combination with sealed fittings for outdoor and wash-down equipment.
