Torque hinges on equipment service doors: where they pay off
Exposed hinges, swinging doors and aging gas struts are the three pains of service doors. Torque hinges integrate axis, friction and holding in one part; sizing notes using the LAMP HG-SFTH series.
Traditional butt hinges plus gas struts take space, look exposed and must be purchased separately. A torque hinge (free-stop hinge) is a friction-stack that holds at any angle, removing struts altogether.
Three sizing inputs: door weight (torque demand), door thickness (body height) and holding direction (one-way/two-way). In the LAMP HG-SFTH series, torque runs 2-12N·m per unit; two hinges per door, symmetric, is typical.
Torque drifts slightly with temperature - leave 20% margin on outdoor equipment. Factory-set torque is not field-adjustable, so size by door weight up front.
